Portraits Project is a series of drawings and photographs that explore our comprehension of facial expressions and body language. The drawn portraits expose our awkward moments of long silences, uncomfortable eye contact, uneasy proximity, etc. The work attempts to be seen as a reference library for gestural language simultaneously unsettling, humorous, seductive and familiar. The process is very critical in this project where I draw a large number of facial expressions from various sources and later ask volunteers to imitate them. I document this performative action using photography. The hope is to represent as many expressions as possible. So far collected are over 800 drawn heads and counting.
